What is an LED lens?
A lens is an optical element with a spherical part of its surface made of a transparent substance (e.g. glass, crystal, plastic, etc.) according to the law of refraction of light.
Type of LED lens?
Convex lenses: thick in the center, thin at the edges; biconvex, plano-convex, and concave;
Concave lenses: thin in the center, thick at the edges; biconcave, plano-concave, and concave.

Lenses commonly used materials: silicone, optical glass, PMMA (acrylic, organic glass), PC (polycarbonate)
Pros and Cons of Different Material
Silicone lens
Because of the high temperature resistance of silicone (also can be over-reflow soldering), it is commonly used directly encapsulated in the LED chip.
General silicone lens volume is small, diameter 3-10mm.
PMMA lens
Optical PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate, commonly known as acrylic)
Advantages: high production efficiency (can be completed by injection molding); high light transmission (3mm thickness when the penetration rate of 93% or so);
Disadvantages: temperature resistance of 70% (heat distortion temperature of 90 degrees, to match the temperature range that PMMA can withstand, the use of PMMA lampshade often must be considered to increase the distance between the light source and the lampshade or reduce the output power of the light source);
PC lens
Optical grade nylon Polycarbonate (PC for short)
Advantages: high production efficiency (can be completed by injection molding); high-temperature resistance (130 degrees or more);
Disadvantages: light transmission rate is slightly lower (87%);
Glass lens
Optical glass materials
Advantages: high light transmittance (97%) temperature resistance and other features
Disadvantages: fragile, aspheric precision is not easy to achieve, low production efficiency, high cost, etc..
